While civic holiday festivities run throughout the long weekend, West Grey police are warning travelers to expect RIDE programs and a strong police presence throughout their travels.
Members of the West Grey Police Service will be conducting patrols and RIDE programs in anticipation of increased traffic on our roadways and trails systems. The civic long weekend traffic enforcement blitz will take place between August 1st and 5th 2019. Police will be utilizing off road vehicles, marked and unmarked police vehicles in an effort to reduce impaired driving and to ensure compliance with a variety of federal and provincial laws.
This will be a weekend of education, interdiction and enforcement. During the weekend blitz, officers will be focused particularly on those breaking traffic laws related to (the big four) Impaired driving [fatigue, drugs, alcohol], distracted driving, seatbelts, speeding and aggressive driving. Using innovative policing methods and community partnerships, we strive to ensure a safe holiday weekend for everyone to enjoy. We ask that commuters be patient and to give themselves extra time to get to their destinations and to always pay full attention to the roadway when driving.
The West Grey Police Service is committed to public safety and to providing proactive policing to our community in an effort to combat poor driving choices. The goal of this enforcement campaign is public awareness and education through traffic stops. Please help us in our effort to make West Grey roadways the safest in all of Canada. Never let a friend drink and drive and always operate on and off road vehicles in a safe and responsible manner. Remember, you are in the driver’s seat.
