South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) has updated its masking policy in response to recently updated guidance from Public Health Ontario on Infection Prevention and Control Measures in Hospitals. This guidance is based on the relatively low number of COVID cases in Ontario Intensive Care units and will allow a gradual step down of universal masking.
Beginning Monday, April 24, universal masking will no longer be required at SBGHC’s hospital sites (Chesley, Durham, Kincardine, Walkerton), however, still recommended for all patients and visitors. Masks will remain a requirement for patients and visitors in the Emergency Department waiting room and treatments rooms, in patient rooms, and for patients with cough, cold or fever. Visitors are asked not to visit the hospital if feeling unwell. Masks will remain available for patients and visitors who prefer to continue to wear a mask while in the hospital.
SBGHC’s masking policy will continue to be reviewed and may be adjusted based upon respiratory disease circulation in the community and updated Public Health Ontario guidelines.
