Driver charged with impaired and stunt driving

On January 22, 2020 at 2:24 a.m. Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) patrolling Highway 6 north of Springmount, Georgian Bluffs stopped a (beige) truck approaching the OPP cruiser at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was recorded by radar travelling at 147 kilometres per hour (km/h) in a posted 80 km/h zone.

Grey Bruce OPP officers arrested the driver of the truck for operating a motor vehicle with blood alcohol level over 80 milligrams, following a fail on road-side screening device. There were 3 additional passengers in the vehicle when it was stopped by OPP.

A 25 year old male from Owen Sound has been charged with the following offences,

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), section 320.14(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada
  • Race a motor vehicle – Stunt, section 172(1) Highway Traffic Act
  • Drive vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available, section 2017 12(1) Cannabis Control Act
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available, section 32(1) Liquor Licence Act

The accused was released on an Undertaking with a court date in Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on February 6, 2020.
