Number of patients at Hanover Assessment Centre quadruples

Over the past two weeks, the Hanover & District Hospital’s (HDH) COVID-19 Assessment Centre has seen an increase to its patient volumes more than quadrupling the number of patients seen at the end of August.

To support the needs of the community of the Town of Hanover and surrounding areas, effective Thursday, September 24, 2020, HDH will introduce booked appointments to attend the COVID-19 Assessment Centre.

By implementing booked appointments, it is hoped that wait times will be better managed and the patient experience will be improved. Appointments may be booked up to 48 hours in advance only.

HDH’s online booking application can be found on the HDH website and at the following link Booked appointments will assist in dispersing the patient volumes over the operating hours of the Centre.

Walk-in patients will continue to be welcomed and be seen at the earliest opportunity; however, they may experience wait times based on physician and staff ability to see patients. Depending on volumes, walk-in patients may not be seen and requested to return on an alternative day.

We encourage our community members to utilize the online booking application wherever possible. The booked appointments will be by the hour. For example, if a patient books an appointment during the 1:00 p.m. to 1:59 p.m. time slot, they may attend the Centre at any point during that time for their appointment. When coming to the COVID-19 Assessment Centre, patients will enter one of two lines; one for booked appointments and the other for walk-in patients. Signage will be clearly posted to assist in guiding patients.

Hours of operation for the HDH COVID-19 Assessment Centre will also be expanding from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with the last booked time slot at 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

A ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ document regarding the HDH COVID-19 Assessment Centre will be made available on the Hospital’s website for community members’ use. Any additional questions can be sent to Community members are kindly asked not to call the Hospital with questions regarding the COVID-19 Assessment Centre and its online booking application and rather refer to the HDH website for information.
