For anyone who, as a child has built a sandcastle on a beach, Sandfest at Sauble Beach is a treat.
These sand sculptures depict lifelike characters and entire scenes from nature and history. From a giant squid to the god Neptune, the sculptured figures include delicate details.
This year’s first place award went to the sculpture of a giant sleeping elephant. Rob Weir and Son, Devon, of Bell River (ON) first participated seven years ago when Devon Weir was only 12. Their first time participating earned them a second place finish but, this year, their elephant luck was with them as they came in 1st place.
