Wiarton OPP celebrate police veterans

The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police celebrated Veterans Day on June 10, 2024. The Grey Bruce OPP had approximately 45 veterans and their families for a BBQ lunch at the Wiarton Detachment. It was a great time catching up with everyone and seeing what retirement is like for all. We look forward to hosting a similar event in 2025.

OPP Veteran’s played an important role in the development of the service and establishing it as an admired police organization around the world.

After retirement, OPP uniform and civilian veterans remain a part of the OPP family, keeping in touch through special events and organizations like the OPP Veterans Association (OPPVA). Retired Special Constables and Retired Auxiliary members are also considered veterans.

The OPPVA was established on June 6, 1969. All retired OPP personnel are welcome at events organized to honour veterans. However, if you are not a member of the Veterans’ Association, the organizers of the events will not be able to reach you unless they have your contact information. Veterans in this situation are encouraged to contact the OPP Regional Headquarters or detachment nearest to them and ask to be contacted about any events. You will need to give them your contact information.

The OPP supports the work of the Veterans’ Association and encourages retired members to join so they stay in touch with their colleagues and the organization.
