At the 11th hour Meaford mayoral candidate Caryn Colman has stepped down from a three-person race. Two candidates, Justin Perks and Shirley Keaveney, now remain on the Meaford Mayoral ballot.
“I don’t want to split the vote,” says Colman. “Given the threat of TCEnergy’s Ontario Pumped Storage project, this is an extremely urgent election for Meaford. I want to clear the deck for the constituents to have a simple choice about who they want for Mayor.”
Colman, the first person to jump into the mayoral competition against Shirely Keaveney, campaigned on a green platform. Her goal was to raise awareness of green energy solutions available for Meaford right now, instead of the Municipality puƫing all its eggs in one basket with the promise of TCEnergy’s payout with the CBA and PDA.
To promote her message, Colman took a pop-up campaign headquarters at 4 Sykes St, downtown Meaford, which included an art exhibition celebrating Georgian Bay. This pop-up will remain untll October 28th.
“It’s no secret green energy solutions bring more jobs for trades. I want to empower people to get grants for heat pumps, retrofits and solar panels, to name a few. We’re not stuck with the destructive technology of an open loop pumped storage system. We must protect our most valuable and precious resource, Georgian Bay and its waters.”
“I feel proud that I met my objectives and will always be grateful to all my supporters who rooted for me every step of the way.”
