Our group was well represented at the third annual Wiarton Homecoming Weekend on Saturday August 1st (2026). We set up the information booth early where we could talk to visitors about our Shed’s activities.
We set up the roaster and cooked up the pork roasts. At the same time members were helping the Wiarton Rotary by making French fries along with their volunteers. The Wiarton contingent of Bruce Men’s Shed gave us a great presence and helped increase awareness about our group. By the end of supper time we had prepared and delivered about one hundred meals.
At noon we met with the Wiarton and District Lions Club to be part of the dedication of the Lending Library we were commissioned to build. It is officially called the Cyndi (Hepburn) Walker Memorial “Book Nook”. We heard emotional stories about how Cyndi was a very special person and a large part of the Lions Club. Her son Tommy Walker gave a touching speech about how the library is an invitation to anyone in the community to immerse themselves in stories taht pay in your mind.
After his speech I asked for his permission to quote the statement he’d written which said “At the end of life what really matters is not what we bought.. but what we built: not what we got but what we shared: not our competence, but our character; and not our success but our significance.”
Drop in for Coffee Monday every week 9am-11am at Canadian Legion Branch 202, 6 Hellyer Road on Highway 6, 4 km north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:45. Our next monthly meeting is Saturday September 19 from 9am-11am where we talk about past and upcoming projects so please come out. In Wiarton Bruce Men’s Shed coffee gathering is every Coffee Wednesday at 10 am at 451 Frank street, Matthew Mutch hosting.
