Bruce Power and its supplier partners have teamed up to donate $170,000 to numerous organizations across Bruce, Grey and Huron counties that are making the holiday season brighter for local families.
The company and its suppliers, in partnership with the United Way Bruce Grey, employees and the community at large, raised $40,000 for local toy drives and hamper programs across the Clean Energy Frontier, while the company also donated $2,000 to each of 38 local food banks.
Principals at elementary and secondary schools across the region handed out $50,000 in grocery store gift cards to students and their families, while women’s shelters and Indigenous and Métis communities also received thousands of dollars in gift cards to distribute within their communities.
Bruce Grey Child and Family Services and Huron-Perth Children’s Aid also shared $10,000 in warm winter clothing to distribute to families in need across the region, while Bruce Power’s Indigenous Network – an organization that brings together Indigenous employees to organize activities that raise cultural awareness and engagement both at work and in the community – held an on-site warm winter clothing drive for the communities of Saugeen First Nation and Nawash Unceded First Nation, to which the Supplier Sponsorship Program also donated $7,000 to purchase additional clothing.
“The need is great across Bruce, Grey and Huron this holiday season, so we wanted to give a helping hand to the many incredible local organizations that make the season brighter for hundreds of families,” said John Peevers, Bruce Power’s Director of Community and Media Relations, and Economic Development. “We’re proud of the role we play locally and provincially but recognize that comes with a responsibility to help others when in times of need.”
