Today, February 15th, is International Childhood Cancer Day and Bruce Power has announced that it will provide $300,000 over the next five years to the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO), as a key element in its multi-year Community Investment and Sponsorship Program.
POGO has been championing childhood cancer care since 1983, ensuring that all children with cancer in Ontario, their families, and survivors have equitable access to the best care for the best possible outcomes.
When a child is in cancer treatment, POGO provides families with financial support to help ease the burden of unexpected out-of-pocket costs. They commit to each child’s ongoing care, knowing that childhood cancer survivors may endure medical and cognitive challenges into adulthood. POGO research also contributes to a better understanding of childhood cancer and its impacts.

Bruce Power, which produces Cobalt-60 used to treat cancer and sterilize medical equipment, says this new partnership with POGO fits well into the company’s focus on health and wellness locally, provincially and globally as well as the company’s commitment to do what it can in the fight against cancer.

Bruce Power also recently announced $1.45 million in donations over the next five years to hospital foundations across Bruce, Grey and Huron counties, as the company maintains its focus on improving the health care of people locally and around the world.
