“Bruce Power remains committed to working with public health officials and all levels of government to assist in the historic vaccination effort that will put an end to the pandemic,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Operational Services.

Scongack is a member of the Grey Bruce COVID-19 Task Force and co-chair of the Ontario Vaccination Support Council, which was recently launched by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. Scongack is proud of the collective efforts shown by all levels of government, private organizations, and public health officials in the face of the pandemic.

“The Hockey Hub vaccination model is just one example of the public and private sector working together to ensure the health and safety of Ontarians throughout the pandemic, and Bruce Power is proud to play a small part,” said Scongack.

Bill Whetstone is a Commercial Lead with Bruce Power’s Supply Chain and Rick McMurray is a manager in Site Services. Together they provided resources and logistical support for three Hockey Hubs in Grey and Bruce counties, before assisting Lambton Public Health with its Point Edward vaccination hub.

Hockey Hub Clinic

“Hockey Hubs can administer significantly higher volumes of vaccine per day than traditional large-volume clinics,” Whetstone said. “The efficiency is based on a streamlined flow-through process and the ability to use non-clinical staff for non-clinical tasks, preserving clinical capacity across the region.”

Anita Trusler, a Supervisor of Health Promotion at Lambton Public Health, said it has been incredible to see public and private entities come together as health units quickly prepare for mass vaccination clinics.

“The support provided from the private sector on the logistical side has allowed us to focus on the clinical aspect, so we can vaccinate people more quickly and ultimately enable the community to regain a sense of normalcy in their daily lives” Trusler said.

In collaboration with the health unit, Grey and Bruce counties, and other community partners, Bruce Power recently provided resources and logistical support to help convert the P&H Centre in Hanover, the Davidson Centre in Kincardine, and the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound into mass immunization hubs. All three sites are ready to immunize residents once large quantities of the vaccine are available locally.
