Bruce Power’s Annual Review and Energy Report highlights the company’s role in Powering Ontario Forward

Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO, was joined by the Hon. Todd Smith, Ontario’s Minister of Energy, as the company released its 2022 Annual Review and Energy Report today at the Toronto Board of Trade.

Powering Ontario Forward: Generating change to secure a brighter future details Bruce Power’s commitment to providing safe, reliable and clean electricity to the province and life-saving medical isotopes to the world, helping achieve climate change goals and cementing Canada’s place as a leader in nuclear medicine.

“We’re proud of what our employees, skilled tradespeople and supplier partners have been able to accomplish, and we’re excited to help lead Ontario’s clean energy future,” Rencheck said. “Since being a major reason Ontario was able to phase out coal in 2014, Bruce Power has continued to invest in our medical isotope production and clean energy technology through our Life-Extension Program and Major Component Replacement Project, and we’re committed to producing even more clean electricity and life-saving medical isotopes for decades to come.

“Our Annual Review and Energy Report highlights the progress we made in 2022, such as the installation of the first-of-a-kind Isotope Production System in Unit 7, while outlining how we’ll support Ontario in achieving its goal of a clean energy future.”

Minister Smith said the nuclear sector and supply chain injects billions of dollars into the province’s economy, giving Ontario an advantage on clean energy infrastructure that is the envy of other jurisdictions around the world.

“It’s no secret that Ontario’s electricity grid is one of the cleanest in the world,” Minister Smith said. “Bruce Power and the nuclear sector play a major role in supplying clean, reliable baseload power to our energy mix and will continue to do so as demand increases.

“At the same time, Ontario’s nuclear sector and its workers are leading the way in the global production of cancer-fighting medical isotopes and I thank them for advancing this important work that is helping save lives here at home and around the world,” added Minister Smith.
