Across four Coldest Night of the Year events, Bruce Grey communities came together in an extraordinary show of compassion and determination, raising significant funds to support neighbours experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.
Two of the four events have exceeded their fundraising goal, with another on the cusp of reaching their goal. Meaford posted a remarkable achievement of 150 percent of its target. Participants, volunteers, sponsors, and donors demonstrated what is possible when people step into the cold with warm hearts and a shared purpose.
Thanks to this collective effort, thousands of dollars will be directed toward critical local programs that provide shelter, food security, and vital support for individuals and families facing some of the most difficult nights of their lives.
“The energy and generosity shown across the region reflect a deep commitment to ensuring that everyone has access to safety, stability, and hope. These results are not just numbers; they represent real impact for people who need it most,” said United Way of Bruce Grey Executive Director Francesca Dobbyn.
With three events at or beyond their goals, the region is now just $15,000 away from reaching its full Coldest Night of the Year fundraising target. That final stretch is well within reach and would ensure that every community achieves its goal and maximizes support for local services. Donations are still being accepted until March 31st, and this last push offers an opportunity for the broader community to help carry the campaign across the finish line and complete what has already been an inspiring effort.
This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers, municipal partners, and event sponsors. From early planning meetings to route marshals on a cold evening, from logistical support provided by municipal staff to the generous backing of local businesses, each played a vital role in bringing these events to life. Their time, resources, and steady commitment ensured that walkers were welcomed, supported, and safe, and that the focus remained where it belongs: on strengthening our community and standing alongside neighbours who need us most.
