Community Foundation Grey Bruce disburses Fall grants

Community Foundation Grey Bruce hosted a celebration of community philanthropy on November 7, 2018 at the County of Grey administration building in Owen Sound. The Foundation distributed $270,878 to forty-nine charities and not-for-profits from across the region. Representatives from a variety of organizations were present, along with funders, Foundation Ambassadors and the Board of Directors. All recipients expressed gratitude to the organizations, individuals and families that have generously invested in the future of Grey and Bruce by endowing funds and legacy gifts with the Foundation.

There was a wide scope of meaningful community projects receiving support. Some examples include: Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce for a program that lends Ipods and mechanical cats or dogs to dementia patients; Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association’s installation of boot-scrubbers on trails to stop transfer of invasive plant seed; Walter’s Falls Community Centre who hosted a Food Handler’s course for local Community Centre boards. Marsh Street Centre in Clarksburg, Kimberley Community Association and Harmony Centre in Owen Sound were all projects that received capital funding to upgrade accessibility at community hub locations. This diversity reflects the breadth of community activities in arts, culture, sports, education, environment and wellness that make Grey Bruce a vibrant place to live.

Chair of the Foundation Board, Maureen Solecki, said “Since its inception in 1994, Community Foundation Grey Bruce has distributed a total of $3.8 million in grants to local charities. Grants, scholarships and bursaries totaling $722,000 will be disbursed by the end of 2018. Our work is making for positive change in Grey Bruce. We’re here for good!”
