Gateway Haven participates in a mock evacuation exercise with Military and First Responders

On Saturday, May 4, 2024, Bruce County Long Term Care & Senior Services proudly hosted members of the 31st Territorial Battalion Group (TBG) at the Gateway Haven Long Term Care Home as part of Exercise Trillium Venture.

This exercise, which occurred in Bruce County and Huron County on the weekend of May 3rd to May 5th, involved over 800 military personnel demonstrating their ability to assist in a domestic response operation to aid municipalities in times of need.

Under the command of Colonel Chris Brown, the 31st Territorial Battalion Group ran a mock evacuation table drill at Gateway Haven. Management Team Members at Gateway Haven shared policies and procedures with the military representatives and worked through a mock scenario where the home would need assistance with a total evacuation.

Planning for this event involved the military and Bruce County Emergency Management. Joining the training exercise were representatives from Bruce County Paramedics and the OPP. All personnel involved walked through the halls of the home for the sake of the exercise and got to visit with residents.
