Ice Conditions Halt Winterhawks Season Opener

The Saugeen Shores Winterhawks and Ripley Wolves got some reps in, but the ice at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine caused a sudden halt to Saturday evening’s game.

A large chunk of ice broke free near the boards with 3:23 remaining in the 2nd period, with Ripley leading 3-2.

Arena staff flooded the ice and attempted to fix the problem area, but referees ultimately declared the ice unplayable and suspended the game.

When they were playing, Brent MacDermid and James McHaig scored for the Winterhawks, who also had a pair of goals called back in the 1st period.

The Wolves and Winterhawks will consult with the WOAA office and we will announce a rescheduled date as soon as possible.

The Winterhawks will be back on the ice next Friday night, October 11th, for the Outlaw Brew Home Opener against the Durham Thundercats.

The tailgate party gets underway at 5:30 p.m. in the Lakeshore Recreation parking lot, followed by puck drop next door at The Plex at 8:30 p.m.
