On August 16th, Larry Miller, Member of Parliament for Bruce-Grey Owen Sound, was pleased to attend an announcement alongside Mike Rencheck, President and CEO of Bruce Power, Bill Walker, MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, Stewart Halliday, Grey County Warden, and Ian Boddy, Mayor of Owen Sound.
It was announced that two suppliers to Bruce Power have secured manufacturing space
in the former PPG facility in the City of Owen Sound. BWXT has secured 66,000 square
feet of the facility with a plan to create 30-50 local jobs. Brotech Precision CNC has
separately secured 10,000 square feet to supply shield plug assemblies to Bruce Power.
In July 2018, BWXT announced that it had entered into a development agreement with
Bruce Power to collaborate on the development and supply of medical isotopes. In June
2018, Brotech Precision CNC and Bruce Power entered into a 10-year agreement that
will see Brotech supply shield plug assemblies as part of Bruce Power’s upcoming
Major Component Replacement (MCR) Project.
“The announcement is tremendous news for the City of Owen Sound and the
surrounding area. It will create local jobs, save a high quality facility, and contribute a
great deal to the local economy,” said Miller. “This is yet another example of how
important Bruce Power is to this area. I also understand that Brotech has already been
working with local school boards and Georgian College to groom students to become
skilled employees. All around, this is fantastic news.”
