The former Markdale hospital property has been sold as of last week, marking an important milestone for the site.
The site was listed for sale late last year and has been vacant since 2023 when the new Markdale Hospital opened.
“Proceeds from this sale will be invested in Brightshores critical health infrastructure as we continue to strengthen care for the communities we serve.” said Ann Ford, President and CEO, Brightshores.
With the sale now complete the new property owner will be working with the Municipality of Grey Highlands on next steps.
“At this time, we don’t yet have full details on the future plans for the former Markdale hospital lands; however, we look forward to working collaboratively with the new owner(s) in our role as the Municipality of Grey Highlands,” said Paul McQueen, Grey Highlands Mayor. “We recognize that there was strong interest in this property, and we appreciate the efforts of all those who participated in the process. After sitting vacant since the fall of 2023, it is encouraging to see momentum toward a new chapter for this site. This hospital served our community for many years, and it’s important to reflect on that legacy while also looking ahead with optimism to what comes next for this important property.”
