‘Spark’ a new innovative tourism program

A new program to support innovative tourism ideas for Bruce County was officially announced today at Cape Croker Park. “Spark” includes a $3000 grant and mentorship connections to help tourism entrepreneurs take their idea to the next level.

The “Spark” program was piloted in Windsor Essex last year by the Ontario Tourism Innovation Lab and is now
expanding across the province. The program aims to identify and foster tourism experiences and partnerships
that will address gaps or challenges, enhance current offerings, and motivate travel.

“We are excited to bringing ‘Spark’ program to Bruce County this year. We’re confident the program will
support new tourism offerings and partnerships in this iconic tourism destination,” says Justin Lafontaine,
Program Lead, Ontario Tourism Innovation Lab.

In Bruce County, the program will focus on opportunities to promote tourism sustainability and is a partnership
program between Bruce County, the Ontario Tourism Innovation Lab, Bruce Power, The Municipality of
Northern Bruce Peninsula, The Municipality of South Bruce Peninsula and Regional Tourism Organization 7.
“Spark aims to encourage tourism entrepreneurs to offer more sustainable experiential, unique or enhanced
tourism activities so that we can continue to support our strong tourism sector while maintaining our
environment,” says Kara Van Myall, Bruce County’s Director of Planning and Development.

From July 3 to September 9, 2019, individuals, small businesses, and non-profit organizations in Bruce County
can apply to “Spark” program. In addition to a source of funds and mentorship, selected participants will also
gain access to a network of tourism innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders, and receive a guide outlining other
resources and support services provided by partners. The top applicants from the region will be invited to a
pitch session in November, where three finalists will be selected.
