Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to recognize the life-saving and courageous act of one of their own.
On September 11, 2018 an award ceremony was held in London, Ontario to acknowledge officers in the OPP that have made a significant impact in their communities and those who have aided the public that live in their communities. An officer from the Bruce Peninsula OPP detachment attended the ceremony to receive an award.
January 17, 2017, off duty OPP constable Rubinstein-Gilbert attended a college basketball game. While she was watching, a referee at the game suddenly collapsed. Constable Rubinstein-Gilbert attended to the referee and discovered he had no pulse and wasn’t breathing. She immediately started compressions and together with 2 paramedic students providing breaths, 911 was called and an AED was obtained. Shocks were administered and the patient was transported to hospital. The patient survived the ordeal and doctors attributed the quick actions of those involved through the administration of CPR and the use of the AED as being vital to saving the referee’s life.
Officer Rubinstein-Gilbert has been honoured for her extraordinary effort and quick thinking that saved a life.
