
Members of the Huron Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have recovered the body of a missing kayaker after he was reported overdue on Lake Huron.
On Saturday, September 5, 2026, at approximately 3:40 p.m., OPP officers responded to a report of a missing 37-year-old male from Kitchener who had been kayaking on Lake Huron and had not returned after several hours. He had launched his kayak from Bluewater, approximately 10 kilometres north of Grand Bend.
Extensive search efforts were initiated and continued throughout the night involving the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre, OPP Marine Unit, OPP Emergency Response Team, and OPP Aviation Services.
On the morning of Sunday, September 6, 2026, the body of the missing individual was located and recovered from Lake Huron, off the shore of Grand Bend, and was pronounced deceased shortly after.
