In celebration of Earth Day 2025, Owen Sound Field Naturalists (OSFN) is pleased to present its 10th Annual Keynote Speaker, Dr. Anne Bell.

Owen Sound Field Naturalists initiated this special speaker’s event on Earth Day 2016 and has featured such iconic champions for nature as Joh Riley, Alan MacEachern, Doug Larson, Jarmo Jalava, Beth Gilhespy, Adam Shoalts, Bob Bowles, Hap Wilson and Lenore Keeshig.

Known for her passion, tenacity and creativity in the service of Ontario’s biodiversity, Dr. Bell’s ‘Conservation of Wild Species and Wild Spaces in Ontario’ will be felt for generations and many environmentalists who trained under her will continue that legacy.

Revered by her colleagues, Dr. Bell holds a PhD in Environmental Studies from York University and oversaw the conservation policy and numerous campaigns, while enhancing  youth programs including Nature Guardians, a Youth Council, and an annual Youth Summit of high school students (including many from Grey and Bruce Counties, who were sponsored by OSFN and other local Nature Clubs) to energize, inspire and motivate the environmental leaders of tomorrow. She also mentored many interns who have developed into solid professionals in many nature organizations.

Dr. Bell will present Rapture and Resistance – the Heart of Nature Advocacy at Harmony Centre in Owen Sound (490 4th Ave. E.) on Sunday, April 27th at 2:00 p.m.

She will recount stories and a few of the lessons learned from her seventeen years as the Director of Conservation and Education at Ontario Nature, touching on the people and places that provided meaning and motivation for her work. Along with the surprises, challenges and frustrations, she’ll share moments of joy and reasons for optimism in trying times.

Now retired, Dr. Bell enjoys spending much more time outdoors, birding, travelling, learning Spanish and visiting with family and friends.
