Provincial Premiers write to Trudeau requesting immediate action on Canada’s bail system

In a recent letter sent January 13th (2023) to Prime Minister Trudeau, all of Canada’s Premiers have urged the federal government to take immediate action to strengthen Canada’s bail system.

In the letter signed by all the Premiers, they urged for reform to the bail system and stated they are willing “… to work with you (PM) and your government on this pressing and important issue” and they are calling on a thorough review of the bail system in Canada.

The request follows the deaths of several police in only a few months, with the most recent occurring in Ontario when a young police constable responding to a motor vehicle in a ditch was murdered by a perpetrator who had a lengthy criminal record and was ‘out on bail’.

The letter emphatically states that, “The time for action is now.”
