United Way Bruce Grey is thrilled to announce our participation in this year’s Santa Claus Parades across the region, where we will be collecting new, warm socks for community members in need. We invite parade-goers to join us in spreading warmth and kindness this holiday season by bringing donations of new socks to the parades.
This year, we will be collecting socks at the following Santa Claus Parade locations and dates:
Owen Sound: Saturday, November 16th
Markdale: Friday, November 29th
Kincardine: Saturday, November 30th
Port Elgin: Saturday, November 30th
Southampton: Friday, December 6th
Meaford: Saturday, December 7th
Last year, thanks to the generosity of our community, we collected 648 pairs of socks during these events. These socks were distributed to police, paramedics, and homeless outreach initiatives throughout the region, ensuring they reached our vulnerable neighbours during the cold winter months.
“Our annual sock collection drive is a simple yet impactful way to support individuals experiencing homelessness or crisis,” said Kristy Andre, Fundraising Champion of United Way Bruce Grey. “Socks are one of the most requested items in shelters and outreach programs, and every pair collected makes a difference.”
United Way staff and volunteers will walk alongside our floats during the parades to collect your donations directly from the crowd. Whether you’re young or young at heart, this is a wonderful opportunity to give back while enjoying the magic of the holiday season. If you miss them at the parades, please feel free to drop of donations to the United Way Bruce Grey office at 380 9th Street East in Owen Sound.
We would like to thank the organizers of each parade for allowing us to collect socks.
Let’s work together to exceed last year’s total and provide even more warmth and comfort to our community members in need.
