Society of Energy Professionals ratifies agreement with Bruce Power

The Society of United Professionals (formerly the Society of Energy Professionals) voted unanimously to ratify their new collective agreement with Bruce Power that takes effect immediately following a strike mandate in June.

The agreement is retroactive to January 1st (2019) for a four-year term with an 8.5 percent wage increase.  In addition, Bruce Power has ensured that it will hire more engineers in Society positions with a greater number being able to move up into higher positions.  The agreement also sets out that employees of the Society can gain more experience through temporary work opportunities.

“We are proud of this agreement as it addresses our members’ priorities and ensures the company remains sustainable”, says Mike Gade, the Bruce Power Local Vice President of the Society of United Professionals who led the union’s bargaining efforts.  “We wouldn’t have been able to reach this agreement without our members’ deep involvement in the bargaining process and confidence in the bargaining team.”

A tentative agreement between Bruce Power and the Society was reached on August 12th.

Members of the Society’s Bruce Power Local include supervisors, engineers and other professionals.
