Waterloo partners with Bruce Power to bring innovative Hockey Hub vaccination clinic to residents

The Region of Waterloo and Bruce Power are partnering to bring an innovative Hockey Hub vaccination clinic to the residents of Waterloo Region. As a result, this week alone there will be approximately 20,000 additional appointments available for residents who want to get their first or second dose of the vaccine.

“We are excited to partner with Bruce Power and welcome the Hockey Hub model to the Region of Waterloo,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “We are continuing to provide even more ways for residents in Waterloo Region to get vaccinated and the Hockey Hub model has proven to be an effective, efficient and convenient way to deliver vaccines.”

The Hockey Hub vaccination clinic model was developed by Dr. Ian Arra, Medical Officer of Health at the Grey Bruce Health Unit. Instead of the client moving from one spot to the other, the Hockey Hub model allows the client to go to one spot where all services come to them.

“We are all in this together and this is an example of how our province comes together in a very special way during challenging times,” said James Scongack, Bruce Power’s Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs & Operational Services, and Co-Chair of the Ontario Vaccination Support Council. “Bruce Power, along with many committed organizations, remains dedicated to working with public health and all levels of government to assist in the historic vaccination effort that will bench COVID-19.”

All the equipment, as well as the personnel and expertise to set up the Hockey Hub vaccination clinic quickly, is being provided by Bruce Power. Watch an overview of the Hockey Hub model here.

“I am thrilled to be working with the Region of Waterloo and Bruce Power to bring the Hockey Hub model to the region so that thousands more residents can get their COVID-19 vaccine as quickly as possible,” said Kitchener-Conestoga MPP Mike Harris. “This innovative vaccination clinic has been extremely successful at getting shots into arms efficiently and will be crucial to further protecting our community from this virus.”

Bruce Power will be setting up the new clinic model at Bingemans in Kitchener in the coming days. The vaccination clinic will be in operation by Thursday. By the weekend,

thousands of additional appointments will be available for residents who want to book an appointment to get a first or second dose. More information about appointments will be available in the coming days.
