Groundhog Day 2020 saw cloudy skies with snow falling, which meant Wiarton Willie did not see his shadow this morning on the 64th anniversary of the Wiarton Willie Festival in Wiarton, Ontario.
Hundreds of people gathered to hear what his prognostication would be and, according to Mayor Janice Jackson who translated Willie’s ‘groundhogese’, “it’s going to be early Spring”.
Dignitaries included Premier Doug Ford, who attended for the second year, along with Bruce-Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker, MP Alex Ruff and SON Chiefs Lester Anoquot of Saugeen and Greg Nadjiwon, of Neyaashiinigmiing.
The Festival has been going on since Thursday, January 30th with activities for the entire family and winds up today, February 2nd.
