The forever almost spring-like temperatures come and go so quickly but now that the snow has finally gone we can finally spend a few hours getting ready for planting season. If you are considering buying a raised planter we are again making them, this time with cedar legs and bottoms, but with pine boxes and a liner. They are deeper at 10” to 11”. Later this month we are going to hold another bird house build-a-thon where I hope to turn a stack of lumber into about fifty kits for bird houses. We will bring them to the Pike Bay Canada Day event and set up to assist kids nailing them together. They will also be brought to other places this year to other events.
We recently received quite a number of gently used power tools from a Miller Lake area resident, for which we are very grateful. Bruce Men’s Shed is amassing a wide array of hand and power tools with the intent of allowing members to borrow or buy them from us. One day when we have a workshop we will have a great start at filling it with great tools.
On Saturday May 30th, we are holding a free spring bicycle tuneup event at the Lions Head Farmers Market. A team of men will be on hand who can adjust gears, brakes, derailleurs, replace worn brake pads, straighten wobbly wheels, fix flats, lubricate chains and more. Stop by our booth and say hello.
Our next monthly Saturday meeting is May 16th from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Every Monday morning, we meet for coffee from 9am-11am at Canadian Legion Branch 202, 6 Hellyer Road on Highway 6, 4 km north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:45. There is also a Bruce Men’s Shed coffee gathering every Wednesday at 10 am in Wiarton at 451 Frank street, Matthew Mutch hosting.
