Bruce Men’s Shed: Newsletter – September, 2025

by Gerry Tilmans

For all of the foodies out there, I just wanted to remind you that on Friday September 26th, we will be holding our pork roast dinner. Tickets are $20 per person, and will feature a ½ pound of shredded pork with a secret sauce on a bun, along with Cole slaw and baked potatoes with all the fixings. Tickets can be bought at the legion on Monday mornings (see below), by email or phone. There are a few tickets left, RSVP quickly before they’re sold out!

Last month, Bruce Men’s Shed did a presentation at the Propeller Club in Wiarton as part of their lunch and learn series. It seems to have been well received because, since then, we have held two Wednesday morning coffee gatherings at Matthew’s art gallery at 451 Frank Street. All men are welcome to drop in for coffee and a chat.

October 4th and 5th the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula will be hosting the Senior Wellness and Volunteer Fair and Men’s Shed will have tables at both Tobermory on the 4th and Lions Head Rotary Hall on the 5th. Both are 9-5 events, with information booths open in the morning, and in the afternoon they have a great lineup of speakers. I just read a tweet that said “depression can’t hit a moving target” so I looked it up. AI overview credited this saying as coming from a book called “Depression Hates a Moving Target” by Nita Sweeney. It further states, that if we feel overwhelmed and paralyzed, small intentional actions can overcome it – so come on out to one or both days.

Please note that our monthly Saturday meetings resume on September 20th at 9AM to 11AM, and every Monday morning we meet for coffee 9am-11am at Canadian Legion Branch 202, 6 Hellyer Road on Highway 6 just north of Ferndale. Doors open at 8:45.

In Wiarton, the address is 451 Frank street at 10am Wednesdays. Feel free to drop in for coffee. If you would like further information on how to get involved with the Men’s Shed movement, please contact us at brucemensshed@gmail.com or call Gerry at (519) 793–3005.
