Crime Stoppers is all about community and January is Crime Stoppers Month. This year, the 2025 theme is ‘Empowering through Education, Preventing through Action’.
The first Crime Stoppers began in 1976 and it has become an international but community-based program that allows residents to provide anonymous information about criminal activity. In Grey Bruce, 2025 will mark 38 years that Crime Stoppers has been active.
Overseen by a volunteer Board whose members are passionate about making a difference in their community, and as a registered charity, Crime Stoppers relies on the generosity of community donors to fund the program.
The process of Crime Stoppers is: “Tips are received anonymously from “Tipsters” contacting Crime Stoppers and all tips are shared with police and other investigative agencies to be followed up on. Crime Stoppers works diligently to shield the identity of the Tipsters. If tip information is accurate and leads to an arrest or the recovery of drugs or stolen property, the Tipster may be eligible for a cash reward up to $2,000.”
One-year statistics show the impact that Crime Stoppers Grey Bruce has had in preventing and solving crime in the region.
