On-going investigation in search for missing person

The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is providing an update regarding the ongoing search for missing person James VAN‑VEEN, 64 years old, of Georgian Bluffs.

Following several days of extensive search efforts that were temporarily suspended due to hazardous winter conditions, the OPP will resume active search operations this morning in the Inglis Falls Conservation Area.

James VAN‑VEEN was reported missing on Monday, January 26, 2026, after failing to arrive for his scheduled work shift. His vehicle was later located unoccupied in the parking lot at Inglis Falls. He is described as:

  • 5’10”, approximately 175 lbs
  • Shoulder‑length grey/white hair
  • Full grey beard
  • Brown eyes
  • Prescription glasses
  • Believed to be wearing dark overalls and high‑cut work boots

Today’s renewed search will involve a large police presence, including members of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine Unit, OPP Aviation Services, and the Underwater Search & Recovery Unit (USRU). Specialized resources will be deployed throughout the trail systems, escarpment terrain, and surrounding areas.

To support these operations, the Inglis Falls Conservation Area parking lot will be closed to the public so that a command post can be established. The public is strongly encouraged to avoid the area to ensure search teams can work safely and without interruption.

Anyone who was in the Inglis Falls area between the evening of January 25 and the late morning of January 26, 2026, is encouraged to review any dashcam, home surveillance, or trail camera footage for potential sightings.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of James VAN‑VEEN is asked to contact the OPP at 1‑888‑310‑1122. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477 or submit a secure web tip at www.crimestop-gb.org.
