Ontario enhancing fire protection services, supporting economic development and helping strengthen emergency preparedness.

The Ontario government is investing $100,725 to support important local initiatives in the Municipality of South Bruce by enhancing fire protection services, supporting economic development opportunities in the community, and helping strengthen emergency preparedness.

Through three provincial funding programs, the Municipality of South Bruce will receive:

  • $35,725 through the Fire Protection Grant to purchase 11 sets of dual-certified coveralls for emergency incidents where structural firefighting bunker gear is not required. This equipment will help improve firefighter safety and ensure local fire services are prepared to respond effectively to a variety of emergency situations.
  • $15,000 through the Rural Ontario Development (ROD) Program to support business attraction efforts and the municipality’s “Growing with Purpose” campaign, helping showcase South Bruce as a great place to invest, work, and grow.
  • $50,000 through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG) to purchase a mobile diesel generator that will provide reliable backup power for the Emergency Operations Centre and other critical facilities. The generator will help maintain essential communication and coordination systems during power outages, support evacuation centres, and strengthen regional emergency response capabilities.

“Investments like these make a real difference in our communities by ensuring municipalities have the tools and resources they need to keep residents safe, support local growth, and prepare for the future,” said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce. “I am pleased to see these investments supporting important projects in the Municipality of South Bruce, from strengthening emergency preparedness and fire protection to helping attract new opportunities for businesses and families.”

Earlier in the year of 2025, the province announced that it is doubling the investment in the Fire Protection Grant – from $10 million in its first year to $20 million in year two.

The Rural Ontario Development (ROD) program supports local projects from municipalities, small businesses, not-for-profits and Indigenous groups. Since 2019, Ontario has invested $34.3 million in 653 projects through the ROD program and the former Rural Economic Development Fund. The third intake for the ROD program opens on August 17, 2026.

The CEPG supports small to medium-sized municipalities, local service boards, First Nations communities, Tribal Councils and Indigenous service organizations. Since the program launched in 2023, the province has invested $15 million to provide 342 recipients with grants.
