Police kept busy over Christmas

On December 24, 2023, at 2;12 p.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report that an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) was stolen from a property in Chatsworth Township.

Later that day, Grey Bruce OPP officers received a report of an ATV stuck in the mud on a trail near the area of Highway 6 & 10 in the Municipality of Meaford. As officers approached the ATV, officers advised the suspect that they were under arrest, the suspect left on the ATV evading police.

On December 25, 2023, at 7:48 p.m., a Grey Bruce OPP officer located the stolen ATV and suspect at a business in Owen Sound. The officer spoke with the accused who punched the officer in the face and resisted being arrested.

As a result of the investigation police have charged a 29-year-old male from Chatsworth with the following offences:

  • Assault a peace officer
  • Resist peace officer
  • Uttering threats – cause death of bodily harm
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Possession property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Escape lawful custody
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.

On December 25, 2023, at 4:13 p.m., members of the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting R.I.D.E. along Concession 8 in Brant Township when a vehicle stopped. Officers determined that the driver had been drinking alcohol.

They were placed under arrest and taken to a Qualified Intoxilizer Technician for breath tests.

A 51-year-old male from the Township of Arran-Elderslie was charged with Operate over 80 milligrams.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Walkerton on January 24, 2024, to answer to the charges.

An impaired driving charge includes an immediate 90-day driver’s license suspension and an immediate 7-day vehicle impoundment.
