On January 5th, 2022, all hospitals across the province were instructed by the Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) to pause all non-emergent and non-urgent surgeries and procedures in order to preserve critical care and human resource capacity across the Ontario health care system.
The purpose of Directive #2 was to allow staff to be redeployed from one area of the hospital to another to support essential health services to patients during this latest wave of COVID-19 infections.
On February 1st, the CMOH released a modified provincial Directive allowing for the gradual resumption of these non-urgent or non-emergent clinical activities in areas where system capacity appears to be secure, or where there is limited redeployment opportunity.
The revisions to the Directive relating to non-emergent surgeries is limited to pediatric surgeries only at this time.
As a result of the modified Directive, South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) will resume nonemergent and non-urgent laboratory, diagnostic imaging and cardiorespiratory procedures at full capacity by Tuesday, February 8th .
Additional appointments have been added to SBGHC’s Community Lab Collection booking system beginning Monday, February 7th .
