The Grey Bruce Labour Council has a nearly thirty year legacy of recognizing and supporting students. This has taken the form of scholarships and “in class” sessions on health and safety and labour law. In the context of the Labour Movement, young workers have long been in leadership roles.
Now with Pride month upon us, the Grey Bruce Labour Council will enthusiastically engage in a variety of activities to demonstrate support for diversity, equity and inclusion. A year ago during Pride month, the Labour Council released a joint statement which highlighted the organization’s commitment to ensuring that those voicing intolerance and hate speak would not be permitted to voice their views without the voice of diversity, equity and inclusion also being loud and clear in our region.
This year, Pride month has given us a clear opportunity to live up to that commitment. The Bluewater District School Board Student Trustees are exhibiting conscience, ethics and morality, and denying intolerance and hate speech. Too often those embracing the ideals of Pride find themselves feeling unsupported or alone, and too often young people suffer at the hands of adults exhibiting the worst of behavior.
During this month of Pride, the Grey Bruce Labour Council unanimously supports the Bluewater District School Board Student Trustees and any person finding their inner strength to take a stand against intolerance and hate speak.
The Grey Bruce Labour Council has been the voice of workers in Grey and Bruce Counties since 1956.
