Police advise – report suspicious activity immediately

On February 14th, 2024, at 1:38 a.m., the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious person that resulted in an individual being taken into custody.

Around Russett Drive and Union Street in Meaford, a resident reported that an individual knocked on their door and left, which appeared suspicious for the time of day. A description of the individual was provided to police.

While the police were patrolling for the individual, police located a black Toyota Highlander parked in the same area of the suspicious person and the vehicle was blocking two other vehicles. A short while later an individual matching the description of the suspicious person was observed driving the Toyota Highlander. Police contacted the registered owner of the Toyota Highlander and found out that it was stolen through the overnight hours.

Police initiated a traffic stop. As a result, James King, 49-years-old of no fixed address was charged with:

·      Possession Property Obtained by Crime over $5000 X2
·      Theft of Motor Vehicle
·      Fail to Comply with Probation Order X2

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
