OPP rolling out Civic Day Long Weekend Safety Initiative

The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is ramping up enforcement and education efforts for the Civic Holiday Long Weekend with a dedicated road safety initiative beginning Friday, August 1 to Monday, August 4, 2025.This campaign centers on the Big 4 driving behaviours-the leading contributors to serious collisions and fatalities on Ontario roadways:

  • Speeding
  • Distracted Driving
  • Impaired Driving (by alcohol or drugs)
  • Seatbelt Violations

In addition, officers will be closely monitoring compliance with the Move Over law, which requires motorists to slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the roadside.

Motorists are reminded that safe driving saves lives. As traffic increases across the region, the OPP asks all drivers to plan ahead, stay focused, and respect the rules of the road.

Drive safe. Stay alert. Buckle up. And always move over. Let’s make this Civic Holiday weekend collision-free.
