School and Museum evacuated after bomb threat

Fire ‘training safety house trailer’ was used as a command centre


At approximately 10am on June 5th, a call was received by 911 dispatch indicating a bomb was in a vehicle in the parking lot of G.C. Huston Elementary School on Victoria Street in Southampton. 

Students were evacuated and moved to a safe location

Both the school and adjacent Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre were evacuated and went into lock-down as Police, Fire Service and Bruce County EMS responded immediately.

“The response by police and fire was phenomenal,” said G. C. Huston Principal Dan Russell.  “They are extremely professional.”

According to one source, “The students were exemplary.  They followed instructions to the letter and handled everything with such  maturity.  They were amazing.”

The perimeter around the buildings is secure and an investigation is underway.  The public are asked to avoid the area.
